Saturday Practice & Coaching                      Sunday Practice and Race

This event is run at an official Council camping and caravan site
so if you want to go for the weekend, it’s a great opportunity for a final summer camp with a BBQ on Saturday evening.
Slalom equipment available for novices to use if wanted.

Cost: £5 race entry fee including temporary British Canoeing insurance. The club will sort out your entry for you but we’ll need money by 24th August. £5 to Wendy.

The course: gates over the water that you take in number order a bit like at Wagon Lane but they’ll have their posh race gates up. Learn more here.

How the day goes:

Arrive – about 9am is good.

Collect your race number and check your run times. (Parents can do this while you get on the water and practice)

Get on the water and practice the course.

Get off, get dry and warm.

Be on time for your 1st timed run.

Do your 1st run as fast and clean as you can.

Stay on the water at the end until the next two paddlers have finished.

Get off, get warm and dry, check your result and what time your second run will be.

Be on time for your 2nd timed run and do it all again!

Check your results and reflect on your achievement.

The day usually finishes about 3.30pm so say goodbye to any new friends and arrange to meet them at your next race.

Take with you:

Kayak, paddle, spraydeck, helmet, buoyancy aid. Borrow these from the club.

Water shoes, cag.

Thermal bottoms, thermal tops. In cool weather, try for three sets so you have dry gear to put on.

Money, food, brollie and an expectation of fun.

At the site there is usually food on sale (burgers etc) and toilets.

If you haven’t got a way to transport a kayak, talk to Wendy and others who are going as they may have room on their car roofs or you can borrow equipment from Green Star.
