To find if you need and can have a free check, have a look at the flow-chart below.
The Disclosure and Barring Service replaces the old CRB checks. It aims to enable organisations to ascertain if a person has a criminal record, and what for.
It is a safeguard for us all and although it has obvious weaknesses, it would be ridiculous if we did not use it to help us fulfil our Duty of Care to our members.
Having a check involves filling in an on-line form. Then a Verifier (Wendy) will check some identity documents eg your Birth Certificate , Driver's Licence and fill in a second part of the on-line form.
You and Wendy will be told automatically what the status of your check is. If anything shows up, Canoe England get this information and tell the club what restrictions we have to put on your deployment or activities.
