The club has a great safety record even though we paddle in hazardous environments.
The events you or your children take part in at the club site and at races are risk assessed and mitigation and restrictions put in place eg who can paddle at certain water levels, equipment checks, helmet and buoyancy aid rules etc.
At the club, most of our coaches and activity leaders are acting outside the recommended remit of their coaching qualifications. We have instead, a rigorous system for safety checking activities, enthusiastic aspiring coaches and backing from British Canoeing.
British Canoeing's policy on safety and club activities is here.
The Trustees of the club need to demonstrate Due Diligence in deploying members to lead activities so any club trips off site on the club calendar are subject to pre-checks and documentation. If you attend a trip and think anything is dodgy, let us know and we can address it: fill in a "Near miss" report or an incident report. Or just tell a Trustee.
If it's not on this web-site, it's not a club event.
The Trustees deploying activity leaders and are: Mark, Cath, Judith, Jez, Shaun, Wendy and Jason Duckmanton.
